Founded in Los Angeles in 2007, Acropolis Apparel™ is clothing company with a “cerebral” approach to fashion, ensuring each design has a specific definition and underlying meaning. My first impression, I don't like the crappy-looking website (sorry) but after digging deeper to the catalog, I found something interesting from the brand.
Acropolis brings unique, bold concept to the table. Its inspiration seems to be influenced by human history blended with contemporary society, for provocative thought. The key words (as they told me) are:
Ancient Remains...Modern Beginnings™ is a blending of the essence of past civilizations, cultures, ideologies, philosophies, architecture, art, weaponry, and human emotions with their modern counterparts.
Hmm, yeah… I hope you don’ get confused by those words. Anyway, each tee shirt not only named with fancy words (such as Euphoria, Conspiracy, Living God, etc.) but also has their own "story”. Other than that, Acropolis tees likely to appeal those who are looking for smart tee shirts collection with classic art print.
The Phoenix Brain gloss The Phoenix, MA - Jan 15, 2008 remain more hackneyed than their indie counterparts (Bitch, Bust, Venus Zine). Popular is: short editorial, short fashion spreads, short on mind-catching
Back printing or not, this is one of my all-time favorite designs. So fuck it, I’m going to run it.
Seriously, Airside’s Battle Royale tees are one of the shirts that inspired me to start this blog. Three years ago to the day, in fact. So on the eve of my nth comeback — and our 3rd birthday — it’s apt for me to have been forwarded news of this beauty being reprinted.
If t-shirts could be sexy beasts, this would be amongst the sexiest of them all. I know I’m gushing, but I seriously love this shirt so much I want to take it behind a middle school and get it pregnant.
Is that taking it too far? Probably. But that’s just how I feel, dammit.
Just when I thought the toys they make these days couldn’t get stranger, Upper Playground, SuperFishal, and Ningyoushi collaborate to create Barry. Designed by Jeremy Fish, this phallic statue of, appropriately enough, a beaver, functions as both art and a vibrating vinyl friend. Scheduled to drop at the end of February, expect Barry to come with batteries.
If there’s one undeniable fashion truth, it’s that Bebe sucks shit! I hate their cheap-o clothes, which always seem to have a detestable satin finish, and of course, I loathe their choice of Eva Longoria as a spokesperson. Yuck!
Now I see the results of the Tara Subkoff (of Imitation of Christ fame)/Bebe union, and I wonder: can Subkoff make up for the multitude of seemingly unforgivable sins committed by Bebe? I do love me some Subkoff, and Chloe Sevigny sure does make that polka dot dress, which comes in brown and red as well as solid black, look good.

If you had the opportunity, how would you dress
Senator Clinton? I would go with Carolina Herrera, something really classic. Maybe some Chanel suits, something really refined.

If you could vote for First Lady, who would it be—Bill Clinton or Michelle Obama? Oh, Bill! A vote for Bill is a vote for Hill. I love the Clintons
Well, given that, if you had the opportunity, how would you dress
Senator Clinton? I would go with Carolina Herrera, something really classic. Maybe some Chanel suits, something really refined.
What was your style when you were 13? Too colorful. Too many mismatched patterns.

From local illustrator Brandon Bird comes this great looking Law & Order Batman mashup “crimefighters” design. It certainly looks like the Dark Knight version of Batman, which is a film I’m really looking forward to.
Ok, I’m giving you a good hook with this one. If you feel like changing the icons or wallpaper (Free) on your Mac (or PC) Alxa.ru is a good website for that ! And if you dont know how to change icons contact me or Google it !
What a super great idea! (much unlike that dumb old mean PETA ) Taxi, a Toronto ad agency, recently made 3,000 jackets for the homeless, a project called 15 belowproject. The jackets were made to be lightweight, waterproof, breathable, convertible (can be made into a backpack or pillow) and the most important, warm. When the 9 pockets of the jacket are stuffed with newspaper, the jacket can withstand extreme cold temperatures. The project got its name from the temperature in which a weather warning is issued.
This is the jacket being tested in a cooler with a temperature of -19 degrees.
Full disclosure: The founders of Lifebooker, a new website which is like Open Table, but for spas, are friends of Threadster's. For the holidays, they have gift certificates, which means you can give your mom a massage without a) rubbing her anywhere, or b) having to figure out whether she wants reflexology or aromatherapy. Or she could decide to book some acupuncture or a fake tan or a Brazilian—ew—instead.
If you're not feeling the holiday spirit just yet, you might be more interested in this link, which tells you how to get $50 off any spa treatment through the website. You look like you could use an Ayurvedic Baltic Mud Wrap or something.
How could I NOT be swayed by the idea of a 10 piece little black dress collection designed by Osman Yousefzada for Mango? Especially after seeing this advert and finding out I don't even have to go into Mango to buy the dresses (I find the Oxford Circus store a bit of a headache for some reason...), and that it will be available at Selfridges. The term 'LBD' should not really get me all excited but behold, it's one of those dresses where you scroll down and something interesting magically appears and in this case, it's a panel of brushed bronze, a colour that I associate with Yousefzada's last collection. I'm pretty sure more of interesting details will surface after seeing the full 10-piece collection.
P.S. His latest AW08-9 collection was infused with THAT shade of cobalt blue that makes my heart beat which has now made me set on wearing vibrant blue on Valentines day as opposed to to the conventional red/pink.
One would think a life out in Arizona would produce imagery of arid deserts and funny little plants that grow under such conditions. But
Joe Sorren's paintings speak of hope, innocence and another world, with the bright sun rising high into the clouds over an endless ocean of dreams. Sorren's new painting "In the Morning, in the Tide," will show at
Alix Sloan's new gallery in New York later this month.
I super love Guy Bourdin. How in the heck could you not? I know, I know his beautifully rich photographs objectify women for the sake of shock value. That’s much IS true. Okay, you win, he’s a jerk. What can I say except I love jerks? I just wanted to share with you bit of one of his short films. (the rest are available on youtube) It really is the best 68 seconds you’ll spend all day.
MAC cosmetics will be kicking spring 08 off with yet another amazing collaboration. This time around its with the popular French graffitti artist Fafi, who did her part in making sure the packaging of this collection was on point. Collectors items? Yes and hell yes
When D.C. lost über-cool Unsung Designers last December to New York City, the fashion community was heartbroken. The boutique's claim on emerging designers introduced local fashionistas to a world of hip culture and couture. It was a refuge for bold, funky, and edgy styles that attracted even the shiest of characters. Thankfully, online sales are still possible but if a shopping excursion to New York is not in your future, then where does that leave the designers? The departure may have left L.A.-based designers Stephanie Verrières and Kimi Sako of Verrières-Sako without a second home, but the duo wants to ensure D.C. fashionistas are well stocked with their film noir-inspired collection of pencil skirts and cocktail dresses.
"We fell in love with D.C. and were sad to learn that the store was closing," Verrières said recently from her California design studio. "We would really like to be in the D.C. [retail] market."
And there is plenty of room. The designers' skill for manipulating fabric to create dramatic lines as demonstrated in the double collar blouse or signature defined waist dress appeals to the femme fatale gone glam. The organza dress coats worn over a sultry little cream dress would be the perfect attire for a night at the Kennedy Center. The collection's palette of neutral hues and quality fabrics, which includes bamboo, invokes elegance and sophistication – a perfect description of the modern D.C. woman.
In the months to come, Verrières-Sako plans to return to D.C. to participate in trunk shows. In the meantime, My Signature Look, a local wardrobe consulting company, has acquired items from the collection for private viewings. My Signature Look held the first viewing last week to rave reviews by clients and colleagues.
The District's recent expansion of boutiques and couture living appears ripe for an Unsung Designer replacement, if not the answer to emerging designers east-coast hub.
